Networking

The Board is the iwi authority in Hauraki. It is part of a growing network of iwi and Maori organisations within our tribal rohe. Other groups include regional bodies like:

  • Te Kaunihera Kaumatua o Hauraki - a group of Hauraki tribal elders

  • Hauraki Maori District Council, Maori Committee representatives associated with name

  • Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki, the tribal health arm of the Board

  • Te Reo Irirangi o Pare Hauraki, who operate the Board's radio frequencies to promote Te Reo Maori and Tikanga Maori (Maori language and principles) in our area

We have about 20 marae scattered across the region with numerous hapu groups and an increasing number of Te Kohanga Reo (language nests for our mokopuna) and Kura Kaupapa Maori (schools totally immersed in Te Reo).
